Liên hiệp Hợp tác xã thương mại TP.HCM (Saigon Co.op) quyết định ngưng kinh doanh sản phẩm ống hút bằng nhựa trên toàn bộ hệ thống bán lẻ, bắt đầu từ tháng 5-2019.
Chiều 9-4, ông Nguyễn Anh Đức, phó tổng giám đốc thường trực Saigon Co.op, cho biết từ tháng 5-2019 hệ thống bán lẻ gồm Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food, Co.op Smiles, Cheers trên cả nước của Saigon Co.op sẽ hoàn toàn ngưng kinh doanh sản phẩm ống hút bằng nhựa.
Không chỉ loại bỏ hoàn toàn ống hút nhựa ra khỏi quầy kệ trong khu tự chọn của các siêu thị, ông Đức cho hay Saigon Co.op cũng chủ động loại bỏ các loại ống hút nhựa đính kèm cùng các sản phẩm hàng nhãn riêng, đồng thời cũng có thông báo yêu cầu các gian hàng thuê mặt bằng trong khu tự doanh hạn chế tối đa sử dụng ống hút nhựa.
Đây là hệ thống bán lẻ đầu tiên tại Việt Nam đưa ra quyết định táo bạo nói trên, nhằm hướng đến chiến dịch bảo vệ môi trường mới thông qua hành vi tiêu dùng trên kênh bán lẻ hiện đại trên cả nước.
Theo ông Đức, việc loại bỏ ống hút nhựa trong mảng kinh doanh tới đây của Saigon Co.op và thay bằng ống hút giấy, ống hút gạo thân thiện với môi trường sẽ được gấp rút triển khai.
Người tiêu dùng có thể có thêm lựa chọn từ các loại ống hút bằng inox, thép an toàn, thủy tinh dành cho cá nhân có thể sử dụng nhiều lần theo phương án thay thế phù hợp mà Saigon Co.op tiến hành, đảm bảo không ảnh hưởng đến thói quen của người tiêu dùng nhưng có tác dụng tốt trong việc bảo vệ môi trường
Saigon Co.op là một trong số ít nhà bán lẻ nhanh chóng đưa ra lộ trình phù hợp để từng bước giảm thiểu tối đa việc kinh doanh những sản phẩm không có lợi môi trường.
Năm 2011, Saigon Co.op là đơn vị đầu tiên thay túi nilon khó phân hủy thông thường bằng túi nilon tự hủy thân thiện với môi trường và đang dần chuyển mở rộng gói thực phẩm bằng lá chuối trên diện rộng trong toàn hệ thống bán lẻ trực thuộc.
